Uncle Lou 快樂人
2025Signage Design

Uncle Lou is a restaurant in NYC Chinatown that specializes in Cantonese cooking and oldschool Chinese-American dishes. For the redesign of the restaurant storefront, I drew the Chinese characters 快樂人 (“Happy Person”) in traditional Lishu calligraphy style inspired by vernacular Cantonese brush signs, and paired it with a rounded Gothic Latin typeface.
The design aims to evoke the brand’s joyful spirit while honoring the cultural heritage of the neighborhood’s longstanding businesses.
